BAPS Hindu Temple Opens in Abu Dhabi: -The Hindu Temple of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) in the Saudi Arabian capital, Abu Dhabi, was officially opened to the public today. Alongside this significant event, the temple administration has outlined a set of guidelines for visitors, covering preferred attire, restrictions, and rules regarding photography.
BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, commonly known as BAPS, is a well-regarded Hindu religious and social organization. Founded in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj, a revered spiritual leader within the Swaminarayan sect of Hinduism, BAPS has expanded globally, with around 1,550 temples in its network. These include the iconic Akshardham temples in New Delhi and Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, as well as various Swaminarayan temples worldwide.
The inauguration of the temple, standing at 108 feet tall, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month marked a significant milestone for the Hindu community in the UAE and fostered stronger bilateral relations.
In conjunction with its public opening, the temple authorities have issued guidelines to ensure a respectful and harmonious environment within the premises. These guidelines require visitors to cover their bodies between the neck, elbows, and ankles, while prohibiting the wearing of caps, t-shirts, or any attire with offensive designs. Additionally, translucent or tight-fitting clothing is discouraged, as are accessories that produce distracting noises or reflections. Furthermore, pets, outside food and drinks, and drones are strictly prohibited within the temple grounds.
Emphasizing the importance of compliance with these guidelines, the authorities stress their role in maintaining the serene atmosphere and orderly management of the temple premises.
The grand consecration ceremony of the temple by PM Modi in Abu Dhabi on February 14th saw the participation of over 5,000 individuals, marking a joyous celebration of this significant occasion.
Situated on a vast 27-acre site in Abu Mureika, near Al Rahba, off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway, the temple stands as a symbol of cultural and spiritual significance. With an estimated cost of ₹700 crore, the temple’s unveiling represents a new chapter in religious architecture and community engagement.
Announcing the eagerly awaited opening, the temple authorities expressed their excitement on social media, inviting visitors and worshippers to experience the sanctity and beauty of the Abu Dhabi Mandir. Sculpted in the Nagara style of architecture, the temple’s facade intricately depicts universal values, narratives of cultural harmony, Hindu spiritual leaders, and divine avatars.
